Taverna Roma, Rome, Italy

We accidentally came across this little trattoria one rainy night trying to take a shortcut back to our hotel. Unfortunately it was late and they were already closed ~ so we returned the next night and did not regret doing so.
We went to some other restaurant our first night in Rome, which was highly rated and recommended on TripAdvisor, but I did not really like it that much. It was crowded, not particularly cheap and seemed a bit commercialized and not really that authentic (unfortunately cannot remember the name anymore)
Well now, Taverna Roma was the complete opposite ~ unpretentious, low-key and seemed like mainly locals frequent this establishment and thankfully we got a table - right next to the counter/display fridge.
The menu was simple with most of the basics. We had some pasta and dessert - and of course a local beer.
The prices are very reasonable and tourist friendly. The atmosphere was nice - quiet but pleasant and at the same time relaxed and friendly.
I have read some other reviews complaining about the atmosphere and service - but I could not find fault with any of that.
The lady who took our order, answered some questions about the food and we also joked about the tiramisu being "diet friendly”, so I it goes without saying that I tried some ~ I mean really, who can say no to “diet friendly” tiramisu!?!
