What a sight to behold, driving up to the entrance and lobby of this resort!
A relaxed and tranquil feeling washes over you once you step out of the vehicle ~ it is quiet and calm, a very different vibe and atmosphere after spending a few days in the hectic main area of Patong beach.
This resort is located just south of Kamala beach, against the foot of the mountain and stretching up against the mountain a bit, with the bar and restaurant at the top providing some spectacular views of the sunset and Kamala bay & beach. It is a bit of a walk getting to the main beach or road with all the shops, but it is do-able. They do however offer a shuttle service between Kamala beach and the hotel. Being a bit removed from the main and busy area, just helps to promote and create this sense of calm and relaxation.
The lobby is a nice big open area looking out onto the pool, restaurant and pool bar area - immediately making you realize that the pace here is much slower and you cannot help but fall into a relaxed and slow mode.
Check in is quick and straight forward, they prepare and have most of the paperwork ready beforehand, and it is basically just a case of confirming everything, they also provide some welcome drinks while waiting. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to rooms with a private plunge pool on the balconies, which came in handy since it was hot! We arrived a bit early though, so the rooms were not immediately available, providing us with a reason & excuse to enjoy a drink and a light lunch at the restaurant next to the pool.
It is possible to walk up to the rooms in the lower buildings against the mountain and closer to the lobby, they do also provide carts to drive guests up to their rooms. The person who helps guests to check in also seems to be the person who escorts guests to their rooms and shows & points out all the amenities and services available. I have come across a few hotels now that practice this procedure and I am definitely a fan! Luggage & bags are delivered promptly as well.
The rooms are really big, with a walk in closet to store the bags, a safety deposit box, a mini fridge and area to make coffee and tea, a huge comfortable bed, a huge bathroom with a shower and a bathtub, all the required toiletries and then of course the balcony and the plunge pool outside.
The big pool is definitely a welcome relief at the end of a long and tiring day to go cool down and just take a quick power nap on one of the day beds lining the pool, some of them even in the shallow end of the water.
I am impressed with and really enjoyed the breakfast spread they offer. There is a big variety ranging from cold meats, to salads, juices, coffee and tea, Western dishes, Asian dishes, a big selection of baked goods and breads, cereals ~ I was seriously impressed and happy to have breakfast here!
We went for a Thai buffet dinner which is not your standard kind of buffet, but a menu to order from unlimited. Some of the dishes were not as … tasty … as I would’ve liked, but some others were really delicious, particularly the starter dishes and desserts. The buffet does not include drinks and we ordered through the whole menu once to sample and taste all the dishes and in the end we were so full we could not manage to have more of the dishes we liked.
The Sunset Grill restaurant and bar at the highest level of this resort provides some really unique and scenic views of the area and sunset over the ocean, and what better way to do see this with a nice cold cocktail in hand. Needless to say, we did of course have a few, since they have a happy hour on the cocktails!
This is definitely a 5 star resort and it is clear in how they manage things and interact with guests. The staff is well trained, friendly, always smiling and almost all of them speaks a good level of English.
